Markham Park Event: POTA (Parks On The Air) – BBQ

A Perfect Day at Markham Park: April Event Recap

As the sun rose over Markham Park, anticipation filled the air for what promised to be a day to remember. Our April event was set to unfold, and Mother Nature seemed to be in perfect sync with our plans. Nestled under the shade of a sprawling tree, with the tranquil waters as our backdrop, we embarked on a memorable journey.

Setting up our tents amidst the picturesque scenery, we were greeted by the playful dance of fish leaping from the water, a natural spectacle that set the tone for the day ahead. Nature’s company didn’t end there; a curious local bird decided to join our festivities, cheekily eyeing our hotdog buns as we prepared for the day.

With everything in place, our event kicked off with a bang. We were thrilled to welcome a diverse group of 12 attendees, including members from the Gold Coast Club ARA, our local CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and intrigued passersby who couldn’t resist the allure of our setup at the park.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to engage in POTA (Parks on the Air) activities, forging connections with fellow enthusiasts across the country. The addition of a new technician class operator to our ranks brought fresh energy and enthusiasm, resulting in a flurry of successful contacts and exchanges.

Of course, no event is complete without delicious food to fuel our adventures. From savory barbecue chicken sandwiches to classic hotdogs and hamburgers, accompanied by an array of sides, chips, and refreshing drinks, we ensured that no one went hungry or thirsty throughout the day.

As if orchestrated by fate, the weather graced us with its perfection. With temperatures hovering at a comfortable 78 degrees and a gentle breeze whispering through the air, not a single cloud dared to mar the azure sky. It was a day tailor-made for outdoor pursuits and camaraderie.

Despite the abundance of activities, one item remained unchecked on our agenda: the eagerly anticipated fox hunt. While circumstances may have conspired against us this time, rest assured that it’s merely postponed, destined to add an extra layer of excitement to our next event.

As the sun began its descent, casting a golden glow over the park, we couldn’t help but reflect on the magic of the day. Markham Park had been the perfect host, offering us its natural splendor as a backdrop for our shared passions and connections.

With hearts full and memories aplenty, we bid adieu to April’s event, already looking forward to the adventures that await us at our next event. Until next time, Markham Park, thank you for a day we’ll cherish forever.
